    When I use HW insert in Pro Tools (latest version) with my Apollo X6, apparently latency is compensated automatically because the outcome of your test on my system is NO DELAY between the tracks. Even by listening to the same track in parallel with HW insert there is no perceived phase shift... It's a sort of mistery which is apparently non documented anywhere, but It works for me...

    I find the Neve more polished with a bit more of a natural low and high end (I would hope so for the price lol) but the Behringer has a slight 'cool ugly' thing going on in the upper mids - I really like what it does to the snare, and it's otherwise pretty close. NGL I know they're not a transformer maker originally but Midas has done a really good job on the transformers in all this stuff, kicks the ass of the old Behringer output transformers if you want colour. I like my Klark Teknik boxes a lot for what they are - really cheap way to play around with these older style designs.

    Im hearing a little bit more musical Pumping on the Neve. On the Full mix it is realy noticable when all the Instruments play. The guitars have that little bit of a ducking effect in grove with the Kick, to leit it through a bit more. But still very close.

  • @volpir4672
    @volpir4672 4 дні тому

    the cumulative effect in the mix is key, the behringer is brighter and squealing the mids, the tone is rawkus, once you pile up a few instruments recorded with this it's really going to give you a hard time in the mix, high end gear gives you that last 10% of polish that allows for more clarity once the whole track is mixed, listening to tracks over and over is less tiresome and that's what separates a classic track from others, people need to listen to them over and over, they will only do this if their ears aren't warn out, if you are going to record a couple of things then go for the behringer, but if you have to process 10+ tracks of audio +add effects then use something more subtle, warm audio, avalon, stam, hk, manley, ssl... I've worked with 100+ tracks of audio many many times, something with the behringer tonal quality might only go on 1 or 2 of the tracks, why lose the stereo image and room tone that you spent time carefully setting up... I'm sure people will make great records with it but they won't be great because they used the behringer, however using some high end gear can make average music into timeless music. that last 5-10% that good gear gives you is what makes an average song into a spectacular piece of music... ...that'll do, is the enemy of greatness.

    Since you have two, you could do the Andrew Scheps vocal trick. 1st Pulltec cut the lows at 100Hz and boost the high at 5kHz then into the LA2A into the 2nd Pulltec bring the lows back in and attenuate the high back down. Works really well in a dense rock mix 🤟🏼

      @lessecretsduson the issue is to do with thunderbolt bandwidth. It doesn’t allow for 128 simultaneous connections with a 1024 buffer. I think the idea is to have an option to lower the number of I/O reported by the device to unlock the option for 1024 buffer. It’ll be like a firmware option

    • @OliverShillito

    • @sidhsolanki9300
      @sidhsolanki9300 9 днів тому

      Still not clear on what you are trying to illustrate. If you place hardware inserts on tracks, PT will compensate for the delay across all track individually on playback and you should not hear any delay discrepancies. At least with HDX. If you re-record a track by bussing internally, you will record the round trip delay, as you have shown.

    • @OliverShillito
      @OliverShillito 9 днів тому

      I’m not on HDX. Native does compensate for delay but the timing needs to be manually accounted for. As I illustrated in my video. Otherwise if you use a hardware insert without calculating the delay, the timing will be off. This isn’t a thing on HDX but it is on Native.

    I am dealing with this issue right now after fairly recently switching from Logic to Protools. I could not believe that Pro Tools did not have a ping tab like logic to automatically calculate round trip latency. With all of the crazy deep features that Pro Tools has it is wild that they have not added this. People have been asking for many many years and it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult only leads me to believe that they want this to be a pain so that people are more interested in buying there interfaces that handle all this for you. My question is how does this process look when you are using a patch bay and signal is going through multiple pieces of hardware? I mean if you only need to do this process once for different sample rates that isn't to bad but if you are having to do math everytime you want to set up different signal chains that is kinda ridiculous. thanks for the video dig the channel.

    • @OliverShillito
      @OliverShillito 10 днів тому

      Thanks for watching! Different chains of gear make no difference providing all of said gear is analogue! The single calculation of round trip latency will do the job for you! I used to have a setup similar to this with patchbays etc and I never had a problem. I work mostly in 48 so it's mostly set and forget for me but I agree it's ridiculous that Pro Tools doesn't do this automatically unless you drop 10 grand on a HDX system. As if charging us an absurd fee every month wasn't enough already!

      @@OliverShillitoThat’s why I quit ProTools many years ago, from version 10 they quit supporting RTAS plugins and those were the ones that I had and could afford. Basically I had to buy all plugins again if I wanted to upgrade above version 9. I kept using my old system with a Digidesign controller for some years but when upgrading my system I switched to Reaper and never looked back. I’m not going to invest in something that is basically not future proof again. I never buy anything with dedicated hardware again and also no descriptions and even no hardware ecosystems too. I just gave it a listen on my monitors, so I will be the final judge. The Neve is better. How much better? I heard more transients like string plucks and fret noise, wider sound, a bit cleaner highs, but marginally better. Not huuuugely better. These things you hear on monitors. On a mix in a living room or car stereo. Not unless you are an audiophile. Perverts.

    can you explain the different setting of slow and fast attack on the two channels in the first 14.35 minutes?

    • @OliverShillito
      @OliverShillito 15 днів тому

      I’ve found the difference between fast and slow fairly minimal so it doesn’t make a huge difference really even if I did forget to change the Behringer. Fast is 3ms and slow is 6ms, so there isn’t much in it!

    Agreed re: Dangerous. I sum out of a BURL Mothership on 32 channels via a Chandler MIni MIxer and BURL Vancouver into Manley outboard and there most certainly is a difference in spatial perception. (Depth/height/width, reverb tails, etc) and an overall muscularity that I just don't hear ITB. The cumulative effect of passing signal through all those line amps in the Chandler (essentially a 16ch TG console) as well as a switchable transformer-in option on the Vancouver is where the magic/mojo resides. Most importantly I get 'there' much quicker with fewer tweaks, making the entire mixing process smoother and more enjoyable. YMMV. Cheers!

      Lovely setup that and yes I’d agree. It’s those sorts of things that make the mojo. This is what people love the console sound! Thanks for watching!

    This is a good video those that work on and actually have expensive gear know why… I hate the other brand with a passion and not because I work on and have Neve. I hate the other band with no gear at all. I’ve never heard 2 compressors sound so close as show on the previous video. This link is to the warm audio vs Neve also as close some spots as close ua-cam.com/video/aD9D-Wcw2zc/v-deo.htmlsi=z2_T3CqRmD8d0AOG Evidently clone this Neve compressor isn’t as hard as other gear

    The Neve and the UAD plugin are more similar to each other to my ears, the behringer kinda has more of its own thing going on with a slower attack (especially in fast attack mode) which is I think what made it feel more "open" as you mentioned in the previous videos. The Neve and UAD version are both more grabby.

    I see a lot of people saying the 2akt buti think the wa2a might be a more interesting comparison and you won't have to give tribe/uli your money. I also think its not the fixed attack its smoothness, i think its the variable release and how it responds differently to different areas of the spectrum. Eta: if you don't fully believe me try to set up a similar response in reaxcomp, and play with various fixed attack times.

    Give the Behringer a few years of use. Over time the transformers/opamps etc. will start to impart a different color. Usually warmer/more saturated because those parts have been broken in. Transients can sometimes sound a lil bit more hifi/bright/spikey on newer gear; pres/eqs/compressors, etc.
